Privacy Policy
This policy explains how BitcoinRate (bitcoinrate.co.uk) collects, uses and protects your personal data, in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who we are
BitcoinRate operates https://www.bitcoinrate.co.uk ("the site"), a Bitcoin price information website. For the purposes of UK data protection law, we are the data controller for personal data collected through the site. You can contact us at contact@bitcoinrate.co.uk.
What data we collect
We aim to collect as little personal data as possible. Depending on how you use the site, we may process:
- Technical data — IP address, browser type, device type, and general location (country/region), collected automatically via standard web server logs and, if enabled, analytics cookies.
- Cookie preference data — your consent choices, stored locally in your browser (see our Cookie Policy).
- Contact data — if you email us, we'll hold your email address and message content to respond to you.
We do not require you to create an account, and we do not collect financial account details, wallet addresses, or trading data through this site.
How we use your data
| Purpose | Lawful basis (UK GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Operating and securing the site | Legitimate interests |
| Remembering cookie/theme preferences | Consent / strictly necessary |
| Site analytics (only if you consent) | Consent |
| Showing advertising, including via Google AdSense | Consent (for personalised ads); legitimate interests for non-personalised ads where applicable |
| Responding to enquiries you send us | Legitimate interests / contract (pre-contractual steps) |
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies for essential site functionality, and — only with your consent — for analytics and advertising. Full details of every cookie category, its purpose and duration are set out in our Cookie Policy. You can change your preferences at any time using the "Cookie Preferences" link in the site footer.
Third-party services
We use the following categories of third-party service, which may process data on our behalf or as independent controllers:
- Google AdSense, including Auto ads — automatically places and displays advertising on the site. Google and its advertising partners may set cookies and similar technologies, and process data (including your IP address and browsing behaviour on this and other sites), to serve and measure ads, in line with Google's own privacy policy, subject to your cookie consent choices. See Google's advertising policy and how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- CoinGecko API — powers our live price ticker. Your browser calls this API directly to fetch price data; no personal data is knowingly sent by us as part of this request.
- Hosting provider — processes standard server logs (IP address, request data) to deliver the site and maintain security.
Advertising and how to opt out
Google and its advertising partners (including approved third-party vendors) use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this site or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and other sites on the internet, and — only where you've given consent via our cookie banner — to personalise those ads.
You can control or opt out of personalised advertising at any time:
- Use the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer, or our Cookie Policy, to reject advertising cookies on this site.
- Visit Google Ads Settings to control how Google personalises ads for you across the web.
- Visit aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.com/uk, industry-wide opt-out tools covering many ad networks besides Google.
If you opt out of personalised advertising, you may still see non-personalised ads on this site — these still help fund free access to our live price data.
International transfers
Some third-party providers we use (such as Google) may process data outside the UK. Where this happens, we rely on the provider's compliance with UK-approved safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or an adequacy decision.
How long we keep data
Cookie consent preferences are stored in your browser until you clear your browser storage or withdraw consent. Server logs are typically retained for a limited period for security purposes. Emails you send us are kept for as long as reasonably needed to handle your enquiry and for our records.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; request correction or deletion; restrict or object to processing; request data portability; and withdraw consent at any time (without affecting processing carried out before withdrawal). To exercise any of these rights, email contact@bitcoinrate.co.uk.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK's supervisory authority, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), if you believe your data has been mishandled.
Children
This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. The "last updated" date below shows when it was last revised.
